 Prom Rally and Dance 2016 - A Big Thank You to Shea Runge, Colleen Hayashi, ASB and all the staff members who helped make Prom 2016 a memorable night for 600 students. Starting with our Friday Rally with performances by Song/Cheer, the Dance Company & Mr. Garcia’s Color Guard and Drumline to Saturday’s dance at Club 10 in Costa Mesa. These were terrific events for our students! Thank you to the Mustang team who make this a positive, fun evening. Thank you to the following:

Senior Awards 2016 - Over 200 seniors will receive scholarships totaling $4.1 million, 1 is a National Merit Semi- Finalist, 14 are National Merit Commended Scholars, 13 earned an “A” in every class they took in high school, 1 had perfect attendance and 13 had over 500 hours of community service. Thank you’s go out to the following staff members for their presentations, and participation in the recognition of our seniors – Counselors – Peyton Pike, Lori Walls, Nancy Coulter; presentors Stacy Shube, Lisa Tully, Jason Pietsch, Desi St. Amant, Carol Carson, Greg Kemp, Jamie Jauch, Meshel Maes, Sarah Shay, Richard Cadra, Angelina Atmadja, Theresa Maeder, Christine Collins, Linda Yakzan, Carmen Nicholson, Mike Moore, Mark Honig, Noelle Toxqui, Rey Lejano, Jenni Messick, Samiya Waheed, Dan Eliot, Sharon Farrell, Jeff Platt, Brent Hendry, Shea Runge, Matt Stine, Phil Mortenson, A Big Thank you to Bincins Garcia who coordinated the selection process with department leaders, organized the program and location for our event and devoted many hours to make sure YLHS Senior Awards is the best it can be!! Congratulations to 2016 Mustangs of the Year – Riley Rose and Brent Sienko.

Did You Hear? – Under the direction of Assistant Principal, Jamie Jauch, YLHS administered over 1100 Advanced Placement exams during the first two weeks in May. These “college credit” three to four hour exams are given in the areas of Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Science, Foreign Language, Computers and Art. Thank you to Mrs. Jauch for coordinating each exam, location and administration. Our students were well prepared for these tests and we expect terrific results from the College Board in July.

Mustang Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 - will be performing with Eric Marienthal, guest artist, on Wednesday, May 25th @ 7:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Theater (El Dorado Campus). This is always a great evening of music and student performances with legendary saxophonist, Mr. Marienthal. Don’t miss it!!!

Coffee With Counselors – The counseling department wrapped up their final “Coffee with Counselors” on May 18th with approximately 45 parents. Topics discussed were: Junior planning for final ACT/SAT testing, summer programs and recommendations, data from this year’s senior class on college admissions, College A-G requirements and college application timelines for this fall. This was our first year with the morning program and parent participation crew with each presentation. Thank you Lorri, Nancy, Peyton and JeNell for organizing and advertising each topic presentation this year!!! “T” for teamwork.

Thank You Special Education Department - for organizing our annual Mustang “Salsa Contest”. There were about two dozen entries in “homemade” and “store bought” and a new category “store bought in homemade bowl”. Matt Stine and his department also provided a great “summertime” lunch for the staff. Thank you again – our “Special” – Special Ed. Department.
