Did You Hear? - On Saturday, November 29th, the YLHS men’s varsity cross country team competed in the CIF Division 3 Cross Country State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno. The team qualified for this prestigious event by winning the North Hills League Championship (their 1st league title), qualifying in the CIF Prelims and CIF finals by placing in the top 7. This was out first cross country team to qualify for the CIF State Championship. They finished 11 out of 23 teams and finished the year ranked 5th by the Orange County Register. A Big Thank You to Coach Dave Miller, his assistants, AD Lisa Tully and Claudia for arranging last minute transportation for the team! Way to go Mustangs!!
Superintendent, Dr. Domene sent out the “Orange County AP Comparison" – on November 20th. The data is always a year behind, so is from 2012-13. PYLUSD ranked 2nd with an 85.27% pass rate just behind Irvine Unified. The county pass rate was 68.14% and statewide 58.07%. PYLUSD had 1800 test takers with 3646 exams taken. Dr. Domene and his team are extremely proud of the efforts made by our students and the dedication of our Advanced Placement teachers, as well as all the teachers who have prepared our students for these rigorous exams. CONGRATS!!
A Big Thank You - to the Counseling staff for “College Financial Aid Night” last Wednesday evening. Ly Le, a Financial Aid Specialist from Orange Coast College presented valuable information about Federal College Aid to about 60 parents in the forum. Another “connection” to help our parents and students prepare for college.
PTSA Staff Cookie Day - Monday 12/8 in the staff lounge. Make sure to stop by and pick up a dozen or so to enjoy or take home to your families. A Special Thank You to our PTSA Student Leadership students and their advisors, Marnie Jenican and Janis Heckel. This is a day that everyone looks forward to all year long!!
