Welcome! My name is Ms. Ferris, and I teach AP English Language and Composition (AP Lang). I have been teaching with the district for 15 years now and have spent 13 years of that time at YLHS. I graduated from USC with a degree in journalism (Fight On!) and earned my teaching credential at Cal State Long Beach. As a journalism graduate, I am passionate about the study of nonfiction and rhetoric, and I love being a part of the Mustang family! In the future, I aspire to earn my Masters degree in Education. My teaching philosophy stems from the idea that anything can be achieved with hard work, consistency, and a positive attitude! I work to create a collaborative, discussion-based, curriculum-rich environment in my classroom where all ideas are welcomed.

To give you some personal background information about me: I was born and raised in Southern California and currently live in Fullerton with my family. My fiance, Brian, is an engineer at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, and we have an adorable 8-year-old daughter named Harper Ann.  Our two dogs, David Bowie and Misty, complete our family.  I enjoy spending my free time by taking family trips to Disneyland, traveling, reading, hiking, attending sporting events, watching movies, going to concerts, and practicing yoga/meditation.

I am always happy to hear from students and parents, so please do not be shy about reaching out. The best way to get in contact with me is to email me; however, please allow 24 hours for me to respond. Students and parents can also respond to a remind message. I rely on Google classroom to communicate with students; this is where I post weekly class agendas (including homework and daily class assignments), class materials/presentations, assignments, and important information/ due dates.  Please access Google classroom using the provided links. Thank you!
