Truancy Procedure

TRUANCY PROCEDURE

PER SCHOOL YEAR
 
Any pupil who is absent from school or tardy to any class 30 minutes or more without a valid excuse is considered a truant.
 
Any pupil subject to compulsory full-time education or to compulsory continuation education who is absent from school without valid excuse three full days in one school year or tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, is a truant and shall be reported to the attendance supervisor or to the superintendent of the school district (Educational Code 48260).
 
The appropriate Director of Attendance will assign disciplinary consequences for truancy.
 
Incident 1 -4    4 hours Saturday School/Saturday Work Program 
 
Incident 5-6    Student classified as Truant pursuant to Educational Code 48260
4 hours Saturday School/Saturday Work Program. Student referred to school resource officer. Student and parent required to attend school attendance review team (SART) conference. S.A.R.T. agreement signed by student and parent. SENIOR LUNCH PASS WILL BE REVOKED AT SART LEVEL.
 
Incident 7    Student classified as a Habitual Truant pursuant to Educational Code 48262.   4 hours Saturday School/Saturday Work Program.  Parent/Guardian referred to a D.A.R.T. meeting by school resource officer for mandatory attendance.
 
Incident 8     Student classified as a Habitual Truant pursuant to Educational Code 48262, 48264.5   Parent contact. Parent/Guardian and Student are referred to the Orange Country District Attorney meeting. Saturday School and/or In-house Suspension

Incident 9  Student classified as a Habitual Truant pursuant to Educational Code 48262, 48264.5   Parent contact. Parent/Guardian and Student are referred to a S.A.R.B. meeting by CWA for mandatory attendance. Saturday School and/or In-house Suspension

 
Incident 10    Student and parent are referred by school resource officer to Orange County Juvenile court for prosecution. Loss of student privileges.
