Health Education (Period 2)

Course Description

Health is a study of the physical, mental, and social topics facing adolescents today. It also includes consumer and environmental issues that influence and relate to each of us. This course is designed to help students truly understand their bodies, their minds, and the ever-changing world around them, and how the choices they make every day can have lasting effects on their futures. During the semester your student will be involved in a number of assignments and activities. These will include projects, group activities, essays, classwork, quizzes, tests, class discussions and participation points. Some of these assignments will require library and Internet research; others may require your student to gather information by means of an interview.

The goal of this course is to help equip students with the necessary information and life skills to lead a happy, healthy life. Along with integrating cross-curricular disciplines to help develop children into successful students, the Health Education course is designed to give students the tools to be successful throughout the major life transitions they will face such as Middle to High School, High school to College and from College Adult life. As a parent, you are of paramount importance in this process. There will be times when your student is asked to gather information from you on a variety of topics. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated. I encourage your support at home. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or e-mail me.
