My name is Mrs. Toxqui. I graduated from Valencia High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts with university honors in both History and American Studies from Cal State Fullerton. I have a Social Science clear credential and earned a Master of Science in Secondary Education at Cal State Fullerton. Additionally, I received the 2017 Edwin Carr Fellowship for excellence in education and the 2018 PTSA Outstanding Teacher Award. At YLHS, I teach World History and United States History and coach Mock Trial. Outside of teaching, I love to spend time with my husband, terrier mix, and beautiful baby daughter. I enjoy traveling, visiting museums and art galleries, learning about new places and cultures, seeing theatre productions, watching my daughter explore the world around her, and geeking out about all things Disney.
My education philosophy is centered on the belief that all students can learn. I also aim to create a positive and inclusive learning environment based on mutual respect, compassion, and understanding. I expect students to take ownership of their learning, self-advocate, maximize instructional time, participate regularly, work together, and demonstrate personal responsibility Moreover, I hope to help students be successful, develop their critical thinking and analytical skills, become stronger writers, work effectively and collaboratively, problem-solve, show empathy, and learn more about the world. If I’m lucky, they’ll also become lifelong learners that love history!
I have set up a website for each course I teach. Use the links below to find the website for your class. On the website, you may find lecture notes, assignments, readings, review materials, due date reminders, a daily agenda, and more.
