Grading Policies

GRADES ARE NOT GIVEN BY TEACHERS BUT EARNED BY STUDENTS!

Fair, consistent, reasonable standards and processes using multiple means of assessments will be established and implemented as the basis for determining grades. The student's grade is a combination of all classwork, homework, projects, participation, and tests/quizzes. As mentioned above, I accept late work for partial credit. The only way for German students to earn extra credit points is by being active German Club members. They can earn three points per meeting but no more than ten points per semester. All extra credit points will be counted towards the student's final exam score. Students who are missing work are not eligible for extra credit. The student's grade is final on finals day (when they turn in their final exam), and no late work will be accepted afterwards.

Students will receive points for assignments completed in class and at home, and those points will then be converted into weighted grades based on the following categories:

40% tests/quizzes/projects

30% class work/oral participation

20% homework

10% final exam

100%  - 89.5%   A

89.4% - 79.5%   B

79.4% - 69.5%   C

69.4% - 59.5%   D

59.4% -      0%   F

Tests/quizzes are given within each unit and are announced in class and on Google Classroom. Pop quizzes may be given if homework is not taken seriously or if I receive a bad report from a substitute. Major projects will always be announced in advance with plenty of time for students to complete them. Extensions may be given under special circumstances. Any attempt at cheating (including the use of Google Translate) will result in a zero for the assignment, and I will contact the student's parents/ guardians.

I update grades on AERIES weekly to by-weekly, and I encourage you to check often so that you can follow up on your son/daughter's progress in my class. Assignments and deadlines will be listed on Google classroom but AERIES is where grades are posted. Students can come to my room for help during break or lunch whenever I am available.

If you have any questions about your son/daughter's grade, please contact me through email [email protected] which is my preferred method of contact, or you may call me at school (714) 986-7500 ext. 14384. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
