Principal's Weekly Update #58

American Legion – Boys State - Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent YLHS at the American Legion Boys State Scholarship Competition in Sacramento: Gilbert Pan – YLHS Delegate winner Josh Cox and Russell Frankston – Alternates.

PLATO Credit Recovery – A big thank you to Mike Moore and Rich Cadra for helping us get our PLATO credit recovery program up and running. PLATO is a credit recovery program for students who are at risk of not graduating. PLATO gives students a needed alternative and second chance to learn online. Using the online program, students repeat a required course they previously have failed. The students are supervised by a credentialed teacher who monitors their progress and offers tutoring as needed. The courses meet our district’s criteria for graduation only and are not at the college preparatory level.

Renaissance Recognition Rally - Friday, March 25th at 9:40, come celebrate our students, staff and community. We will be recognizing students for:
Community Service Hours
Perfect Attendance
Academic Honors & GPA’s
Arts Awards in Fine Arts & Music
“Soaring” Awards
Staff Member of the Year
PTSA – Faculty/Community Members for 2010-11
Please make sure EVERYONE is there to be recognized and support the outstanding efforts of our students and staff!

Did you Hear? – Our very own Dan Eliot was at the CUE Conference this past weekend. He presented “3-D Animation with Google Sketchup” on Friday.

I hope you all received Dr. Smith’s message – regarding his visit at YLHS last Tuesday. Here is is once again:
Dear YLHS Staff,
I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed my visit to YLHS yesterday. Dave and I had the opportunity to visit nearly every classroom and I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the quality of your teaching and your enthusiasm in creating an exciting and intellectually stimulating school environment. It is not often that I have the opportunity to observe so many incredible high school teachers on a single campus. You should be very proud of your work and all that you do to make learning special. I am also impressed with how much time you dedicate to coaching and sponsoring all the co-curricular activities on the campus. Those kinds of activities are often the things students remember most about their high school years.
Thanks for all you do!
Dennis
