Principal's Weekly Update #109

Did you Hear? – YLHS has been nominated for the California Distinguished High School Award. The
California Department of Education is gearing up to launch the 2013 California Distinguished School Award Program. This year CDE will be recognizing the distinguished secondary schools across California. YLHS has been invited to participate in this award because of our CST scores. Joey Davis and I will attend a workshop on Tuesday that will help us prepare for the application process. Congratulations EVERYONE for this nomination. We will keep you posted on a timeline and information needed for the 14 page application. This is VERY EXCITING!

More Good News from CS Fullerton - Last year our Juniors participated in Cal State University’s Early
Assessment Program (EAP). The EAP is integrated with the CST in the 11th grade. The EAP assesses
students on their current level of college readiness in the areas of English and Mathematics. Of our current Senior class, 198 students demonstrated they were “ready for CSU college level English” and 129
demonstrated they were “ready for CSU college level math”. In addition, 110 students demonstrated they were ready for CSU college level Math “conditional” and 81 were ready for CSU college level English – “conditional”. The EAP provides the opportunity for students to earn an exemption from the CSU placement test requirement. Using their EAP results, students are able to save both time and money as they prepare for college success.

Congratulations to the YLHS Band & Color Guard - for their performance at the District Band Pagent last Wednesday. They looked and sounded great!
