Principal's Weekly Update #112

Did you Hear? – Congratulations to Paul Juarez, our YLHS Serve teacher, for being selected as one of the PYLUSD Energy Managers for our district. Paul, along with Eddie Tabata, will work with an Energy Management Company to help us save up to $2 million in energy costs for our district. He will start his training this week as Noah Balik, our campus supervisor, will step up and take over the Serve classes during this transition. Good luck, Paul, and save us lots of money!

The Board of Education - elected the following officers at last week’s annual reorganization meeting:
Carol Downey – President
Carrie Buck – Vice President
Eric Padget – Clerk
Judi Carmona – Trustee
Karin Freeman – Trustee

The Miracle Worker – I hope you had the opportunity to see our Theater Department’s production of “The Miracle Worker”. Our YLHS students did a terrific job! Thank you, Cathy Petz, for all your dedication and time to bring this production to our students and community.

YLHS Women’s Soccer Program – and Coach Greg Aviles sponsored the 1st Annual Soccer With Hope Tournament this past week to raise funds for The Amber Craig Memorial Foundation. The Foundation uses the funds to help others prevent suicide through educational programs. The week long tournament raised over $10,000 for the foundation. YLHS students raised over $7,000 of that total. Thank you, Greg, and our women’s soccer team for “getting connected” to this program that makes a difference in the lives of our teens.

Holiday Spirit – is alive and well in our YLHS Band, Orchestra and Choir. Make sure to take time to enjoy listening to our talented students. Thank Bincins Garcia, Band Director; Phil Mortensen, Orchestra Director and Carol Duralde, Choir Director for sharing your student’s talent with us.
Holiday Potluck – Don’t forget to bring your favorite entrée, side dish or salad to our Holiday Staff Potluck in the library at lunch on Wednesday. It’s always fun to “get connected” with your fellow staff members over GREAT food and conversation! Our newly assigned WASC Chair, Dr. William Brinegar, will be joining us. See you there!
