Two Mustangs Have Finished the “Race”!
• Kathy Rodieck our AP Secretary in Student Services will retire on December 30th after 31 years in the district and key founding member of the YLHS team in 2009.
• Jeanette Smith – PE/Equipment Manager will retire after 28 years in our district and is also key founding member of the YLHS team in 2009.
We will celebrate “Being a Mustang” at our December 4th All Staff Meeting.

Congratulations to Coach Bailey and Mustang Football - for their 44-21 victory over Monrovia HS in the 1st round of CIF play. Good luck this week as they compete against Don Lugo tonight at 7:00 at Shapell Stadium. Go Mustangs!!

Congratulations to our YLHS Band & Guard - for their selection to compete in the SCSBOA (Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association) Band Championships this Saturday, November 18th in Ontario. The championship is reserved for the top twelve groups in each of six competing classification. Great job and good luck to Mr. Garcia’s YLHS Band and Guard!! Go Mustangs!!

Winter Theater Production – A Christmas Carol - under the direction of Cathy Petz, opens December 1st and runs December 2, 7, 8th @ 7:00 p.m. and Matinees on December 3 & 9 @ 3:00 p.m. Come out and see our very talented YLHS students perform.

Did You Hear?
• Congratulations to the YLHS Speech and Debate team, and advisor, Charlene Dagampat, for competing in the OCSL Fall tournament and placing third in sweepstakes. Congratulations to:
 Aarti Tandom – Student Congress Finalist
 Wayne Chan – 3rd place Student Congress
 Simran Chowdhry – 1st as Presiding Officer
 Ryan Lower & Blake Han – Parliamentary Debate finalists
 Cassie Scigliano and Julia Massey – 1st in Original Advocacy
• Academic Decathlon, under advisor, Kelly Buchan, is participating this weekend in the country scrimmage which will help determine which division our two teams will be in. We have two very strong teams, which include 24 students that are going to be competing against not only district schools, but also schools from all around the county. The scrimmage will help determine final teams for YLHS in preparation for the “Two Days of Glory” tournament at the end of January. Last years’ JV team, which came in 2nd last year in JV, is this year’s varsity team. All decathletes have worked hard and we have had great support from teachers on campus who have helped with biology and math topics. Go Mustangs!
• 2017 Mock Trial, and advisor Noelle Toxqui, are off to a winning season. They competed against Corona Del Mar last Tuesday on won!! They will continued their competition last night and then again Tuesday, 11/28 and Thursday 11/30. Good luck to all our Mustangs!!

2017 Career Day – Wednesday, November 8th - had 36 community members on campus to present a variety of career opportunities and answer student questions regarding their field of expertise. Following the morning schedule, many of your presenters commented on our student participation and that YLHS is a terrific school. “We want to come back next year!” Thank You Miya Kim, PTSA President, Career Day Coordinators, Shannon Paradzick and Nancy Coffman, along with hospitality and PTSA student leadership. It was a terrific morning for students and the YLHS community.

2017 PTSA Taste of Yorba Linda – was held on Saturday evening, November 4th, on our outdoor basketball courts. Over 20 local restaurants provided food, drinks and dessert. Taste of Yorba Linda included the following restaurants: Blue Agave, BJ’s Grill, California Pizza Kitchen, Chick-Fil-A, Campitelli Cookies, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Cookie Element, Dunkin’ Donuts, Eureka Pizza Co, Jamba Juice, Lamppost Pizza, Mendocino Farms, Mix Gourmet, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Oceans and Earth, Original Tommy’s World Famous Hamburgers, Sister Sicily, Tio Chava’s Mexican Restaurant, Trader Joe’s, YS Bakers and Wise Guys Pizzeria.  Our very own Jazz Band, Drumline, Dance Team, Cheerleaders and PTSA Leadership students were on hand to perform and help out with everyone who came out to support our PTSA. Fun-fun-fun.
 
2017- PYLUSD High School Showcase – was held at the Yorba Linda Community Center Thursday evening, November 9th. YLHS staff and students had the opportunity to talk with over 400 parents during two presentations of YLHS academics, co-curricular programs, ASB, Mustang Business Academy, Counseling-Student Services, athletics and performing arts.
