Time for Student Recognitions - Congratulations to our outstanding students in the Class of 2018!
2018 Class Valedictorian - Melody Tang
2018 Class Salutatorians – Minh-Khoi Tran and Shawyun Foroushani
Our three outstanding students were selected from the class of 450 seniors for the number of A’s, Honors and Advanced Placement classes, A – G course completions and willingness to take classes outside the normal six period day. All three students will be recognized at Senior Awards Night for their hard work and dedication. Congratulations Melody, Shawyun and Minh-Khoi!



April 17th PYLUSD School Board Meeting recognized the following students with certificates and PYLUSD Challenge coins.
• Nicholas Franklyn – 1st place at the Chapman University Holocaust Art and Writing Contest, with teachers Rich Cadra and Sarah Shay attending recognition.
• Orange County Academic Decathlon 1st Place Winners Jacqueline Pronk, William Russell & Sydney Baugh with teacher/advisor Kelly Buchan.
• National Merit Finalists Melody Tang and Shawyun Foroushani
• National Merit Hispanic Recognition – Matthew Liao
• Outstanding High School Seniors for Yorba Linda High School Mikayla Buscaino, Ian Dembek, and Melody Tang

FBLA – Congratulations - to the following Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) for their participation in the State Leadership Conference last week.
• Rachel Allsup & Sydnie Chin - 3rd place Digital Video Production
• Wayne Chan - 1st place Impromptu Speaking
• Sarah Chen, Janet Han & Alice Ding – 3rd place Introduction to Business Presentation
• Dylan Shih - 3rd place Introduction to Financial Math
Also, Emily Remer was inducted as an FBLA State Officer representing the Southern Section of FBLA. Emily will be leading the Southern Section in the 2018-2019 school year as President. Southern Section of FBLA has over 40 high school chapters. A Big Thank You to teacher/advisor Samiya Hai for helping coordinate our FBLA program. Next step “Nationals” in Baltimore, Maryland.

Did You Hear? - YLHS Speech and Debate Team will be competing at the State Competition this weekend under the Direction fo teacher/coach Charlene Dagampat. Good luck to our Speech and Debate Team –
Wayne Chan, Blake Han, Ryan Lowery, Julia Massey, Rohita Thammineni, Anna Zhang, Andrew Krohn & Caitlyn Truong.

Academic Mustang Achievement Awards – Monday, April 23rd - Our PTSA sponsored Academic Mustang Achievement Awards will be held Monday, April 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at Yorba Linda Friends Church. They will be recognizing 158 freshmen, 145 sophomores, 81 juniors and 124 seniors for their dedication to academic excellence. A Big Thank You to Kimberly Dole, Linda Choi, & Han Tang for all of their work in coordinating this event for our students.

Senior Class Graduation Packets & Grad Night Packets - were handed out last week. Information and Graduation forms with all the dates and ticket information can also be found online at YLHS.org. We have a terrific class of seniors and are looking forward to a great graduation on June 13th!

23rd Annual District Art Show – April 18 – 26, 7:30 am – 8:00 pm – at the district PDA (Professional Development Academy) on Casa Loma. Try to visit the show and see all of the talented students work from here and other schools throughout the district. Great show!

The Theatre Department - presents its final production of the year. Almost Maine, produced by the intermediate and advance theater classes from April 26th and April 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the Forum Theater. Tickets will be available for $5 at the door.

Fine Arts Week - is next week and there are a lot of great performances and showcases going on in the quad at lunch! Also, come to the quad at break on Monday, April 23rd to decorate a paper flower! The winners of this decorating contest will decorate and eat cupcakes with culinary on Thursday at lunch!!
