(on this last one...i want a tenth grade definition and understanding not some encyclopedia's definition)
GOOD LUCK!

The calendar for the month of September is now available on this site. A few questions have arisen about the HW. The "worksheet" is the chart on "Hundred Years War" Plague (Black Death) and Great Schism. ANSWER IT!! That is due on Tuesday and is fair game for test. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND AND I HOPE YOU ARE ALL READY FOR A REWARDING YEAR!

Go Mustangs!

The First Day of School-TEST!!!!(AP Euro)

School is right around the corner! Based on the many responses i have received from my online questions, i Know that many are ready to get down learning! Just a reminder. Homework is due the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. No exceptions will be made. The work will be inputed into AERIES as soon as I get them graded. Secondly, we have a test. It will be multiple choice and a geography map. The MC questions come from the worksheet you are to have completed as well as the podcasts. The Geography map test will be on the same map that you are turning in for summer homework. The test will be worth between 25 and 34 points.

I am really looking forward to the year. It will be very rewarding and we will all work hard. Please do exactly as I say, I want you all to succeed! Remember, this is a college level course!

Themes and Ideas-The Renaissance Chapter 10

The Renaissance

  1. Many factors led to the changes that together comprise the spirit of the Renaissance.
  2. Although similarities do exist, the Renaissance is significantly different than the late medieval period.
  3. The influence of the classics and growing trade broadened the views of Renaissance citizens.
  4. Political structures varied in form from region to region, in Renaissance Europe.
  5. Differences existed between medieval and Renaissance art.
  6. Northern Europe and Italy experienced the Renaissance in slightly different ways.

Essential Questions

  1. What was the “new conception of mankind” which emerged during the Renaissance, and how does it compare to contemporary views of mankind?
  2. How did humanism affect both Renaissance thinking & contemporary attitudes?
  3. How & why did Renaissance art change?
  4. How did the Renaissance differ from the late medieval period?
  5. What was the spirit of the Renaissance & did it reflect regional differences?
  6. How do beliefs about the nature of mankind affect one’s political views?
  7. Are Machievelli’s political ideas applicable in modern society?

Keep Working Hard!

Many of you continue to respond well to my questions. Of course, these questions will not be on our first day of school test but we will see them within the first six weeks of school. The effort is definitely being noticed and appreciated.  At this point, only answer the questions i'm posing, do not go beyond that. I do not want you guys' going beyond what i am asking, let's avoid overwhelming and confusing ourselves.

-I would like YOUR response on this. Please do not make it sound like it's from the book.

Explain how Spain's Imperial (It's global Empire, reach) legacy still exists in the Western Hemisphere today. (Western Hemisphere-N and S American Continents.)

-Next, what is the job of a Cardinal of the Catholic Church?

Good luck!

Great Responses!-MORE!

I have received MANY responses, thanks. I have tried to give a bit of feedback to each. Regardless of the feedback, we are still learning so stay positive! NOW- I need to know what the "low countries" are/were. Who controlled them. Geographically, WHERE in Europe were they? Also, explain and give an example of a fresco.

August 11-Outstanding Students.

Answer and Email YOUR response, not the books. GO!

" Examine the changes that occurred in the late Middle Ages set the stage for the birth of the Renaissance."

July 24th Help on the 100 Years War

I'm attaching a SMALL, brief lecture as a pdf. PLEASE review it. This will be incredibly important in understanding the relationship between England and France and how the 100 Years War will create a more centralized France. Again, you are not required to read this....however, it will help immensely in understanding WHERE we are going. NOTE::::: Norman=France, Flemish/Flanders(present day Belgium) France and Scotland will be pals for centuries. A "vassal" is a subject; someone who is "subject" to the laws of a lord or king.
