Principal's Weekly Update #31

WASC Accreditation - I couldn’t wait any longer for our letter from WASC, so I called. I received a verbal communication that YLHS receive an “initial three-year accreditation,” which means they will revisit us in 2012 when we have all of our grade levels.

The representative I talked with stated “that is outstanding” and we will see you in 2012. The term “accredited” will help with completing the UC forms needed for the A-G requirements. This answers the question asked by so many parents, “Is YLHS accredited?” YES

Again, a big thank you to everyone, especially our WASC Chairs, Dan Dupont and Jennifer Graves. When the official letter arrives, we will have it framed and placed in the front office.

P.S. - The WASC website also shows YLHS as “accredited.”

Did you Hear?
Our very own Dan Eliot was a presenter at the Computer Using Educators (CUE) conference this March in Palm Springs. Dan’s presentation was voted by the conference attendees as one of the TOP 25 – “Best of C.U.E. 2010.” The top 25 outstanding presenters were chosen by the conference attendee’s through session evaluations and attendance – Congratulations, Dan!

PYLUSD has been recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants as one of the “Best 100 Music Education Communities” in the United States. This recognition honors the district, staff and community for the outstanding music programs for students starting in elementary through high school. Congratulations to our entire district music staff!!! – and especially our YLHS Performing Arts staff!!

A Big Thank You – to Jason Kaylor and ASB for a terrific Spring Pep Rally. It was a great time to honor all of our spring sports and “gear” our students up for the AP and STAR testing. The Survivor theme was great!

Thank you Yearbook students and YLHS staff - for the dedication of our very first yearbook – and a group hug! I am blessed with the opportunity to spend my day with so many positive, caring and energetic people. You are the best. Thank you for this very special honor and recognition. I will never forget this moment.
