Principal's Weekly Update #84

2nd Semester 2011-12 Starts Monday, January 31st! – Locators will be handed out in the quad @ 7:30 for all students.

Our Very Own – Megan Rosa
- will be the ABC Channel 7 COOL KID of the week. Megan will be awarded her Girl Scout gold award for her epilepsy awareness campaign she created for YLHS and her work volunteering with the UCLA epilepsy doctors. This segment will air on Channel 7 on Thursday at 4:00 and next Sunday morning, February 5th. Our very own Teacher of the Year, Tammy Smith was also interviewed by Danny Romero from Channel 7 in our library last week. With her challenges of autism and epilepsy, Megan is an inspiration to everyone she meets. Congratulations, Megan!

A Big Thank You to our Counselors and PTSA for holding our 1st FAFSA night. – Financial Aid Night was held in the library on January 25th. Approximately 75 seniors and their parents attended this event. The guest speaker was Kathleen Clark, the Director of Financial Aid at Chapman University Law School. The PTSA also provided beverages. It was a very informative event!

The Mustang PTSA provides a lot of support for our students and staff. Their support and generosity will purchase a 4th AED for our campus, which will be housed in the Forum Theater. They also set aside $2,000 to help with “Breaking Down the Walls” and will sponsor the YLHS “Academic Mustang Awards” on May 3rd. We are very fortunate to have such activities and also a supportive group of parents here at YLHS. Thank you, Melinda Shank, PTSA President, and all the members.

Congratulations to Stacy Shube & the Cheer and Song Squads - for the excellent showing at the CA State Cheer & Dance Championships. Varsity Cheer, JV Cheer and JV Song took a 1st place in their divisions. JV Song also took 2nd place in JV Jazz. Varsity Song took 2nd place in their Pom division and 2nd place in their Jazz division. Way to go Stacy and squads!!

Dr. Smith will be on campus this Friday, February 3rd
– starting at 7:45 a.m. He loves to stop by as many classes as he can during his two hour visit. If you have something special you would like him to see or participate in, let me know. Thanks – He loves to see our staff and students in action!
