Did you Hear? - This past weekend, The YLHS Jazz ensembles were involved in the premier of Disney’s Celebrating Jazz Competition. This 3 day event at the Disneyland Resort consisted of performances and competitions with world-class judges and clinicians. Jazz II scored a good and Jazz I scored an excellent as well as placing 3rd in the overall competition. Great Job Mustangs! Stop by the front offce and see the great trophies our YLHS Jazz groups won. A Big Thanks to Mr. Garcia, Band Director, for getting our kids “connected”.
Chapman University - Following a unit on Night by Elie Wiesel in Sarah Shay’s and Beth Mazurier’s LAI-Honors classes, freshmen Melissa Angcaco, Tristen Martino, and Rachel Stumpf were chosen to represent Yorba Linda High School at the 13th Annual Chapman University Holocaust Art & Writing Contest. Even more exciting is that for the second year in a row, YLHS has a finalist in the top five out of almost 400 entries; finalist Tristen Martino is now eligible to win $500 and an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on March 2nd. A Big Thank You to Sarah and Beth for getting their freshmen “connected”. We are waitng to hear the results – Good Luck Tristen!!!
Did you Here? – The YLHS Choirs will perform at the Anaheim Vineyard for our District Vocal Festival on March 7th @ 7:00 p.m. Good luck and good job Choir Director, Carol Duralde!
YLHS Art News - Eleven Yorba Linda High School Art students participated in a juried show through the Placentia Art Association on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Four students were selected out of thirty-five students from surrounding high schools and awarded ribbons and cash prizes. The Artwork is on display at the Placentia Library if you are interested.
Awards were handed out to the following students:
Jason Lee – 2nd place
Neha Varma – Honorable Mention
Lauren Kitching – Honorable Mention
Hannah Staszak – Honorable Mention
Congratulations to these great art students and their teacher, Kelly Fritz!
