Principal's Weekly Update #101

Congratulations Jeff Bailey, his crew, and the YLHS Football team – for their victory over Esperanza last
Friday night in front of 4,500 students, community members, staff and district office officials. A Big Thank You to Shea Runge, Colleen Hayashi, Jeff Platt, Jennifer Graves, Kino and Officer Terrance Green for their planning and organization of the event. 4,500 spectators came and enjoyed a terrific game without a hitch. Many staff members helped with selling tickets, monitoring the gates and supervising our students. If you have the chance, stop by and see the pictures Shea has of 1,000 students at our pre-game pep rally in the gym. Very exciting!!

Again, thank you to “everyone” for a great school Pep Rally and Game!! (Thank you, Nancy, for the great
score board picture.)

Did you See?
– A picture of our 2013 National Merit Semi-finalists is on our website. Congratulations to Rhea Padakar and Tyler Stevens. Last year 16,000 semi-finalists out of 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 Preliminary National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT). The nationwide pool of semi-finalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. Again, Congratulations to Rhea and Tyler!

Back to School
– Wednesday – September 19th - This is a great time for our parents to see all the great
things you offer our students at YLHS. Make sure you have a handout for parents to take a few notes on as you present your class expectations and curriculum map. Use your technology and your interactive whiteboard to “connect” all of your parents. Last year we had over 1,000 parents on campus. A Big Thank You to Joey, Terry, Shea and Claudia for preparing and planning this very important night. Have a great evening and don’t forget – parking will be at a premium. Come Early!

– The Welcome Back Dance is this Saturday, September 22nd from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. in our gym. This dance is only YLHS students and in years part gets a great turnout. Thank you ASB and Shea.
