Principal's Weekly Update #113

Congratulations to our Attendance Staff - Lori Long, Precious Germaine & Jeff Platt for receiving the PYLUSD Award for “Every Day Counts” – Best High School Attendance 2011-2012. This is the 1st year for the award and we are very proud of all the time and energy everyone spends to make sure our students are here everyday. This is a real team effort from all of the staff!!

Please Welcome – Orange County Sheriff’s Department and our new SRO – Deputy Richard Franco – to YLHS. Deputy Franco is a 15 year veteran of the OC Sheriff’s Department. He spent the last 6 ½ years in patrol operations and has been assigned to the cities of Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel and North Operations. He is currently assigned as the SRO for the city of Yorba Linda.

In 2006 Deputy Franco was deployed to the Middle East (Operation Iraqi Freedom) serving as a Reserve in the US Coast Guard. His duties included Port Security as well as drug and pirate interdiction.

In 2009-2010, Deputy Franco was chosen to be the SRO at Aliso Niguel High School. As the SRO, Deputy Franco taught Drug & Alcohol awareness classes to students at local schools, to parents, police officers, teachers, school administrators and mental health works locally and nationally. Deputy Franco continues this education today.

Deputy Franco is a Field Training Officer. He is a current member of the Critical Incident Response Team, Drug Recognition Expert, DUI Task Force member and an Explorer Advisor. YLHS and our community is very fortunate to continue the tradition of great School Resource Officers on our campus. Stop by and welcome the newest member of the family!

Did you Hear? – Lloyd Walls, Economics/AP U.S. History Teacher, has taken over the head coaching position for our YLHS Women’s Basketball team. He has been working with our women’s and men’s basketball teams over the past several years and we are excited to have him. Good luck to Mr. Walls and the team! GO MUSTANGS!

District CTE Academy Night – (Career & Technical Education) Night - was held last Thursday at the Yorba Linda Community Center for our incoming 8th grade students. At the presentation we had the opportunity to speak with over 150 parents and students about our new Culinary Arts Hospitality Academy. A BIG THANK YOU to Joey Davis, Jennifer Graves, Jenni Messick, Scott Mazurier, Rich Cadra’s Video Production class, ASB students and students from our Advanced Culinary Arts class for presenting the great programs we have here at YLHS.

A BIG Thank You – to Shea Runge and her ASB students for a great Battle of the Sexes Week. If you haven’t heard, Colin Domene is very handy with his saw, power drill and drywall screws. I also want to thank Language Arts for returning my Letterman’s Jacket – BUT – you didn’t clean and press it!! HAHA
