Principal's Weekly Update #129

New Head Women’s Basketball Coach Announcement – Congratulations to Teiko Ikemoto, our new YLHS Women’s Head Basketball Coach. Teiko teaches Japanese Language and Math-Geometry for us. Her experience in basketball includes four years playing at UCLA. She became Head Coach at South Torrance HS, before moving to PYLUSD in 1997 to teach and coach at Valencia HS. She has been coaching youth sports while teaching here at YLHS and decided to take over our women’s program starting this spring. I have worked with Teiko at EHS and YLHS and look forward to her bringing her classroom experience and “on the court” playing and coaching experiences to our women’s program. Again, congratulations and good luck to Teiko and our lady Mustangs as we head into the 2013-14 school year.

All School Rally – I hope you had the chance to see our final all school rally on Friday. It was TERRIFIC!! ASB planned the event and decorated the gym. Cheer, Dance, Color Guard and the YLHS Drum line were outstanding in their individual performances. In musician language, the Color Guard and Drum line were “VERY COOL”.

Congratulations to Rey Lejano - for receiving the 2012-13 Yearbook Dedication. Well deserved for all the time and commitment to his classes, tennis teams and the 1st ever “YLHS Olympics”!
Don’t Forget - Senior Awards, Monday evening at 6:30 at Lakeview Friends Church Auditorium. Our staff will be recognizing students for academic excellence, scholarship awards, community service and the overall “Mustang of the Year”. This is a great end of the presentation and recognition.

YLHS Jazz Band Concert – Tuesday, May 21st – at 7:00 p.m. in the Forum Theater. Special guest artist, Jeff Clayton will perform on saxophone with our students. It will be a great night of music and fun.
