Principal's Weekly Update #139

Big Thank You - and a “Yum Yum” to our Language Arts Department for our 1st Department sponsored staffulty breakfast last Friday. Excellent food and great conversation - It is GREAT to be a “MUSTANG”!

Did you Hear? - 1st Annual “Out-of-State” College Fair last Thursday was a huge success. 47 college and university representatives set up table displays with college information and answered individual questions from our juniors and seniors. It was great to see the interaction between our students and the college representatives. College and university representatives were from Nova Scotia, New York, Virginia, Florida, Montana and even Defiance College in Ohio to name a few. Great Job Counselors for bringing this event to YLHS. Also thank you to our PTSA for providing goodies for the representatives.

Mustang University - is off to a great start! This past week’s “How to Write a College Essay” was informative and well received. Approximately 90 parents attended the evening workshop in the library at YLHS. The guest presenter indicated it was the largest group he has seen. Again, a Big Thank You to our PTSA, Mustang University Chair – Sheryl Becker, and Kristen You, President, for their support of Mustang University and our students. The next Mustang University night will be in December with “Financial Aid Night”.

YLHS Band and Colorguard - earned a superior rating at the Placentia Parade last weekend. Freshman
Drum Major, Becky Kimm, took 2nd place. Following the morning parade, our band competed at the Valencia Tournament, where the drumline took 1st place, Colorguard won sweepstakes and the YLHS Band and Colorguard earned the High Music Award with overall recognition as “Sweepstakes” winner beating 10 bands. CONGRATULATIONS, YLHS Band and Colorguard, under the direction of Bincins Garcia.

Emergency Drill - “Great Southern California Shake-Out” - Thank you to all of our staff for participating in
the lockdown – duck and cover – evacuation drill last Thursday. Moving your class to the assigned areas and checking in with supervisors was efficient and organized. We hope we never have to use these drills in a real life situation but it is great to be prepared if we do. Please let Shea know any ideas that would improve the process for our emergency drill. Thank you, Terry, Joey and Shea for updating our Emergency Books and maps for our drill.
