Principal's Weekly Update #140

Big Thank You - to Shea Runge and her ASB for our 1st 2013-14 Assembly for Homecoming 2013 – “The Forbidden City”. Homecoming week is busy with lots of activities, including the half-time show Friday night and dance Saturday night. Over 700 students attended our YLHS Homecoming Dance in the gym. Great job ASB!!

Did you Hear? - YLHS Jazz Band and Choir performed at the Yorba Linda City Mayor’s State of the City Luncheon at the Nixon Library. Both groups sounded “GREAT” and are terrific ambassadors for YLHS. Mayor Lindsey presented a power point of the City of Yorba Linda, which included the YLHS Distinguished High School Award and our 2013 API of 904. Over 100 dignitaries from around Orange County heard about our wonderful school and enjoyed listening to our band and choir. It is great to be a Mustang!!

Last Wednesday our Mustang Band and Color Guard – hosted a field show tournament with bands and color guards from St. Paul’s Catholic HS, Don Lugo HS, Canyon HS, Duarte HS, Covina HS, Esperanza HS, Valencia HS and El Dorado HS. It was a great time to see high school music groups perform and compete with their individual field shows!

If you missed the performances, on November 6th the PYLUSD Band Pageant will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Bradford Stadium. All of our middle and high school bands will perform. That is over 1200 student musicians and color guard performers in one location. This annual event is always a highlight of the fall season band performances. See our Band Director, Bincins Garcia, for tickets to the event.

Performing Arts Center Tour (El Dorado High School) – The REACH Foundation in partnership with the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District would like to invite you to a “Behind the Scenes” Tour of the district’s new Performing Arts Center (PAC) being held on Saturday, November 2nd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The PAC Tour is open to the public and lasts about 30 minutes – and it’s FREE.
Tour participants must register online at www.reach4pylusd.org or contact us at 714/323-9706 or email at [email protected]. Share the joy of the PYLUSD Arts and invite your friends to join you and consider joining the PAC by purchasing a Seat Dedication for a gift, in memory of, or to celebrate someone that appreciates the value of the arts for our students.

PTSA is having another GREAT Year – with over 930 members at last count. I think they are on their way to another award for the most members in the PYLUSD. In addition, our “very active” PTSA Student Leadership Group, under the direction of Janis Heckel and Marnie Jenican, has 120 student members with even more students who would like to join. A Big Thank You to Kristen You and her team for such an active support group of parents and students. This is a team to be proud of!!

Halloween Dress-up Day - is Thursday, October 31st. Costumes must meet the guidelines of the schoolwide dress code (no midriffs Mr. Moore). ASB will send out specifics on costumes and the lunchtime costume contest.

Mark Your Calendar - November 4th - Monday PLC will be an All Staff Meeting with Special Guest –
Superintendent Dr. Domene. See you there!
