Principal's Weekly Update #150

Congratulations!!! to Brian Fortenbaugh and the YLHS Wrestling Team - for their CIF Dual Meet
Championship last Friday night. This is their 2nd Dual Meet Championship and 3rd CIF win since the school opened. GO MUSTANGS!!!

Congratulations to our Mustangs that competed in the Miss Yorba Linda/Placentia Pageant – last
Saturday night. Emily Patterson was awarded Miss Placentia, Scout Lepore was awarded 3rd runner-up and Kiannah Dole won Miss Teen, Yorba Linda. Congratulations to all!!

Breaking Down the Walls – 2014 was a week of eye-opening presentations and inspirational activities for our students and staff to value themselves, one another and the world around us. The weeklong activities helped to connect our campus to a climate of understanding and support. It gave our students and staff the time to tell their “story” and to realize we all share a small part in everyone’s story.

Thank you, Shea Runge, ASB Advisor, student leaders, Phil Boyt and his Learning for Living Team, along with our Yorba Linda High School PTSA for bringing this program to YLHS again this year. As one participant responded to this week’s activities, “This was a memory for life. Thank you, Mrs. Runge.” - and, “I am asking someone I didn’t know last week to join us for lunch.” This is one of the most powerful assemblies in building and maintaining a positive campus environment.

Did You Know? - Dr. Domene, our Superintendent, developed the Breaking Down the Walls Program at Esperanza High School many years ago. His inspiration and commitment to students working together for a positive school environment was the foundation in working with Phil Boyt for the program that is now presented at hundreds of high schools across the nation.

Dr. Domene visited on Thursday, which provided the opportunity for him to reconnect with Phil and see his vision is still making a difference in students’ lives!

Superintendent Domene’s Visit on Thursday - was “awesome”! Dr. Domene loves to see staff and
students engaged in class presentations. He even spent time fielding questions from a senior government class. As Lorri’s message indicated, he spent so much time interacting with students and staff he didn’t get to everyone’s classroom, so he “will be back”. Thank you to everyone for having Doug be part of class activities. He truly enjoys the interaction he has with students and staff.

2014-15 Class Registration – has started. Counselors went to US History classes this last week to present 2014-15 registration materials and class selection sheets to our Juniors. This week Nancy, Peyton and Kim will be in World History classes to talk with sophomores about their upcoming Junior year. Students may be coming to you with questions about next year’s classes. Counselors will then talk with freshmen next week. Individual student meetings will start February 25th and run through March 21st. A Big Thank You to our US History, World History and Academic Planning/Health teachers for helping with the presentations and scheduling.

Hope You Had a Great Three Day Weekend
– If not – Make the 3 days next week everything you want the time to be!
