Did You Hear? - Newsweek announces “2014 – America’s Top Schools”. Newsweek’s 2014 rankings
highlights schools that do the absolute best job of preparing students for college. Yorba Linda High School was 191 in the top 500 high schools from across the nation. Newsweek’s college readiness score is based on
the following six indicators:
Enrollment Rate – 25%
Graduation Rate – 20%
Weighted AP/IB composite – 17.5%
Weighted SAT/ACT composite – 17.5%
Holding Power (change in student enrollment between 9th and 12th grades; this measure is intended to control for student attrition) – 10%
Counselor-to-Student Ratio – 10%

More Good News – and a “Pat on the Back” - for teachers and counselors. The latest stats from the CA Dept. of Education confirm that YLHS continues to soar! Grad Rate of 98.4% - three percentage points higher than any other school in the district and five percentage points high than the state average. A-G Completion Rate of 69.1% - twenty-two percentage points above any other school in the district and twenty-one percentage points above the state average.
A Great Way to Start our Year is Back-to-School Night – Wednesday, September 17th - We will have 900 – 1,000 parents visit us on Wednesday evening to see and hear about their child’s classes. A big thank you to Jamie, Terry, Greg, Shea, our custodians, ASB, student leadership and campus supervision for planning and preparing for our evening event. A Real Team Effort!! Have a great evening and don’t forget parking will be at a premium. Come Early!
ASB/Booster Club President & Treasurer’s Meeting - is set for Monday, September 15th @ 7:00 p.m. in the forum theater. Please remind your booster club board members to attend this very important meeting. Our PYLUSD Business Services will be presenting the “do’s and don’ts” to help booster clubs in supporting all of our programs at YLHS.
PTSA Meeting – Monday, September 15th @ 6:00 p.m. – instead of the regular schedule of 7:00 due to the Booster Club President meeting. Kristin You and her 38 member team will be discussing all the activities planned this year to support YLHS and Wednesday evening’s PTSA General Association Meeting in the gym during our Back to School Night. Don’t forget to join our terrific PTSA!
YLHS Play - “The Complete History of America – Abridged” - is coming to our forum theater September 24th, 25th, 26th, & 27th – 600 years in 6000 seconds! It will be a good giggle!!
Welcome Back Dance – is Saturday, September 20th from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. in our quad. Looks like we will have a nice “warm” evening for music and fun!
