Principal's Weekly Update #167

A Big Thank You - for a terrific 2014-15 Back to School Night last Wednesday! We had 948 parents on campus for your presentations. As I walked around, I saw many classes with every seat filled and some with standing room only. Comments from the parents, along with many, many thanks you’s included:
Organized
Wonderful-caring staff
Great information
Very enthusiastic teachers
Love, love, love this night
From a new parent to YLHS – “Outstanding! I’m very impressed with the organization, especially all the students so easy to identify with their red balloons. They were all so friendly and helpful. I have been to “Back to School Nights” at other schools and this was by far the best and most organized – beautiful campus.” A Big Thank You to all of our staff, especially Jamie, Shea, Terry and Claudia for all their planning. Thank you to Fred and his crew for making our campus look great and ASB/Link Crew and all our student helpers to guide parents to classrooms. Thank you to Kristen You, Regina Bernabe and the PTSA for providing refreshments.  Last but not least – thank you to Kino, Billy and Chris for watching over the campus on this very warm evening!

Did You Hear? - Hats off to the YLHS Science Department for the great scores on last spring’s 10th grade CST results. 85% of our students (438) taking the CST test in science scored at Proficient or Advanced, the highest in our district. Districtwide – 71% of the 10th graders taking the test scored Proficient or Advanced. Results for all of the PYLUSD schools taking this exam can be found on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress Annual Report for 2013-14. Great Job – Science Department!
