Principal's Weekly Update #195

YLHS Staff – Stop by Tuesday morning at the administration office to see your California Gold Ribbon Award and Exemplary Arts Program Award, along with enjoying a piece of celebration cake and coffee – Congratulations EVERYONE!!

Senior Awards 2015 - recognized over 200 seniors who earned $3.4 million in scholarships and grants, 15 National Merit Commended and recognized College Board Scholars, 10 students who earned an “A” in every class that they have taken, 22 students who earned over 500 community service hours and 63 seniors who earned the Mustang Silver Award. We also recognized the Valedictorian, Miya Sheker, Salutatorians – Thalia Hull, Thomas Kim, Samantha Kuo, and Kayla Reger, along with our Mustangs of the Year – Roshni Patel and Joseph Dabu. Congratulations too all of our Department and schoolwide recipients.

A Big Thank You to our Senior Awards Program Coordinator, Bincins Garcia and his presenters, Peyton, Pike, Stacy Shube, Mark Honig, Cathy Petz, Lisa Tully and Greg Kemp. A Special Thank You also goes to the YLHS Orchestra, under the Direction of Phil Mortenson and the YLHS Video Production class and their teacher, Richard Cadra. This was a terrific evening because of all the support from the staff and program coordinator, Mr. Garcia. Congratulations again, EVERYONE!!!

Did You Hear? - Thursday, May 28th, the YLHS Jazz Bands will be performing with world renowned trumpeter, Wayne Bergeron at the Fullerton College Campus Theater. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. Faculty and staff are free. Come and listen to some great music and watch our VERY talented students.

A Big Thank You - to everyone who made Prom 2015 such a huge success. The location was beautiful and the music was loud! Over 600 students were all dressed up and had a terrific time. It was a real “team” effort. Thank you to Shea Runge and the ASB Junior class, 9 OC Sheriffs and the following staff: Scott Mazurier, Brent Hendry, Alex Flor, Kino, Bill Ray, Chris Mendez, Andrew Alvarado, Lloyd Walls, Tammy Smith, Theresa Maeder, Kelly Fritz, Linda Yakzan, Precious Germaine, Jack Roberts, Tracy Roberts, Colleen Hayashi, Ashley McDowell, Karen Aguilera, Jennifer Johnson, Tara Allen, Trish Stockton, Jamie Jauch, Greg Kemp,. Nancy Couter, Lorri Walls, and Peyton Pike. Sarah Shay and Gabby Stephenson came to hand out and help supervise too!! Another VERY successful dance because of everyone’s help!!

More Fun - MORP dance is this Friday, May 29th from 7 – 10 p.m. in our central quad. Sarah Shay and her yearbook class will be handing out our 2015 Mustang yearbook to student who attend the dance.

AP Assignment Night - is Wednesday, May 27th. The schedule is attached the email.

Congratulations to German Students - Corey Vale and Nicholas Franklyn for winning an all-expenses paid trip to Germany for the video they produced about German soccer team, Bayern Munich. The Goethe Institut sponsored this contest. Corey and Nicholas will meet some of the players “World Cup 2014 Champs”, attend a game and practice and tour Munich! Congrats also to their teacher, Christine Collins!
