Principal's Weekly Update #203

Did You Hear? – Members of the Yorba Linda HS Sinfonia Orchestra have been asked to play music prior to the Mayor’s “State of the City” address on Wednesday, October 14th from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Richard Nixon Library (East Room). They will be performing for the Yorba Linda Mayor and city council, along with many local community members representing elected offices and business leaders. Congratulations to YLHS Sinfonia Orchestra, under the direction of Phil Mortensen.

Busy Week!! - Wednesday, October 14th, YLHS staff and PTSA parents will administer The College Board PSAT exam to over 350 students in our two gyms. This is the first year schools have to administer the exam during the school day. Time and day is prescribed by The College Board organizers. A Big Thank you to Nancy Coulter and the counseling staff for coordinating and scheduling supervision for this exam. Students will report to the gym at 7:30 a.m. to check in and should finish the exam by lunch. We are on a “regular” school day schedule for all of our classes. A release list of students testing was sent out Friday afternoon.

Thursday, October 15 – “Great California Shakeout”
- will take place at the end of 2nd period into break time. Based on a staff suggestion, we will have a special schedule to accommodate the time out of class and balance all classes to have the same instructional minutes. We will go through the full drill from drop and cover to evacuation of classrooms to the field area. Any questions, see Greg Kemp.

Out of State College Fair - is coming to YLHS on Friday, October 23rd from 10:30 – 12:15 in the main gym. Juniors and Seniors will have the opportunity to meet with a variety of college representatives. Over 55 colleges and universities from all over the US will be set up in the gym. A Big Thank You to Lorri Walls and Student Services for providing our students this opportunity. There will be a special schedule to release junior and seniors during 3rd and 4th period that day.

PTSA Reflections Entry Forms - are now available in the office, library and from the teachers in Dance, Film Production, Language Arts, Music, Photography and Visual Arts. This year’s theme is, “Let Your Imagination Fly”. Encourage your students to participate by reflecting on the theme and creating an original work and be recognized in class and community for their creativity and hard work. Entries are due by October 16thin the office/PTSA box.
