Principal's Weekly Update #220

Welcome to Everyone and the 2016-2017 School Year - #8 for the Mustangs. We are opening our doors to 1807 students. A Big Thank You to Fred Fonseca and his crew for the extra hours over the weekend to make sure we look our best and to everyone in the office for all the last minute registrations and preparations to start classes.

A Big Thank You Also Goes to Our Wonderful PTSA - for the delicious staff luncheon last Thursday!! Great food – Great conversation – Great times!!

Good News to Start our School Year - OCDE Newsroom August 11th reported Newsweek Magazine’s “America’s Top 500 High Schools.” Out of 20,000 high schools across the nation, Yorba Linda is #172 and #5 out of 12 Orange County High Schools that made the list. The evaluation process included – standardized test scores, preparation for college, graduation rate, student retention, along with several other measures. Congratulations YLHS students, staff and community!!

Parenting OC Magazine 2016 – Reader’s Choice Awards voted Yorba Linda High School the winner in the “Best Public School” category. Watch for the September edition for pictures and school article.

As You Welcome all of our Students - into your classrooms, remember we only get “one chance to make a first impression" – and our message is – Every Student, Every Day, Whatever it Takes.

Thought for the Week

Find the Joy in the Art of Living – “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him, he’s always doing both.” -- James Michener
