Principal's Weekly Update #226

Congratulations Go to Rey Lejano – Economics teacher, Varsity Tennis Coach and sponsor of “The YLHS Olympics”. Last Tuesday evening at Disneyland Hotel, Rey and 62 other Orange County teachers were recognized as OCDE Top Educators for 2016-17.

Sixty-three superstar educators from Orange County school districts and community colleges were honored at a special evening dinner celebration. “Each year, the Orange County Department of Education and its community partners proudly honor those educators who go above and beyond to nurture, inspire and equip future generations,” said Orange County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Al Mijares. “Though many shy away from recognition, these exceptional leaders are responsible for elevating the teaching profession and their contributions go far beyond imparting knowledge. These teachers CONNECT with students.” Congratulations, Mr. Lejano! YLHS is very proud of you and we all say – THANK YOU for all you do for our Mustang family!!!
Did You Hear? -
*  ASB, with Yorba Linda students collected 44,948 cans of food for Second Harvest in their competition with Esperanza HS. YLHS students earned the right to keep the “Canned Food Drive” trophy for another Year!!
*  All YLHS students participated in our “Beat Esperanza Roving Rally” on Friday, 10/14. A Big Thank You to Mr. Garcia’s Band & Color Guard, Mrs. Shube’s – Cheer and Song team, Coach Bailey’s football team, Coach Djanhangiry’s men’s water polo team and especially, Mrs. Runge & ASB for planning the week’s activities.
*  Friday Night Spirit Rally before the game included over 800 students, YLHS band, Cheer and Song.

It was a great week and a terrific victory over Esperanza, 42-3, in the Battle of the Blvd. Special recognition goes out to Ms. Fritz, art teacher, and her student, Thomas Hoppe, for collaborating with ASB on making the headbands given to students at the rally. There were approximately 600 headbands passed out at the rally for students to wear at the game. Thomas, along with several students in the Commercial Art & Design class completed this massive project that saw all of their creativity on display to promote school pride. It was a HUGE success for Thomas, Ms. Fritz and the Commercial Art class!! Congratulations!

A Big Thank You to YLHS Counselors & Student Services - for their participation and support of the PYLUSD College and Career Fair last Wednesday evening at the Yorba Linda Community Center.
