• Deputy Neal Holmes, our Mustang SRO, was awarded the “You are the Advantage Award” for his work with our school, parents, staff and district over the past several years. Neal worked with our administration team, presented PTSA/District parent information nights and helped supervise many, many school events over his tenure as School Resource Officer.

• Adam Carrillo was sworn in as the new School Board Student Representative – Congratulations, Adam!

PBIS – Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports - is one of our district’s and schoolwide initiatives. Greg Kemp put together a team of staff members to attend the high school PBIS Symposium,. Our Mustang team had the opportunity to attend sessions on equity, engagement, bully prevention, systemic supervision, alternatives to suspension, data-decision making and classroom tiered continuum. It was great to hear that many of the positive behavioral strategies are being implemented at YLHS, along with new ideas to bring back to our staff. The focus of PBIS is a proactive approach to establishing behavioral supports, the same focus we opened the school with in 2009, Goal – Social – Emotional – Academic – Success. Our team will be talking to the staff about new strategies while we continue to emphasize the schoolwide systems already in place. A Big Thank You to Greg Kemp, Peyton Pike, Colin Domene, Jim Hay, Valierie Steinbergs, Matt Stine and Pat Wren for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the training.
