Principal's Weekly Update #243

APLE, PYLUSD, and PTSA - are working together in the statewide May 1st Day of Action: Wear Blue in support and celebration of public schools. The focus is on how public schools are a vital part of the communities they serve. We are asking that you wear blue on May 1st to show your support! See you at the All Staff Breakfast Monday morning in something “blue”!!

Congratulations to -
*  Carol Gilfoy and Vocal Ensemble for their 1st place performance at the Fullerton Jazz Festival last Friday, April 21st. They competed again schools from California and Arizona in the Novice Vocal Jazz, with the top trophy going to our Mustangs. Great job, Mrs. Gilfoy and Mustang Vocal Ensemble!!
*  Bincins Garcia & Mustang Drumline on their Top 5 finish at the SCPA finals in Ontario. The YLHS Guard finished Top 10 in Southern California above 30 other groups. Jazz Band came in 3rd at the Fullerton Jazz Festival . Good luck to Jazz Ensembles at they compete at the Reno International Jazz Festival this weekend!
*  Jenni Messick and Giana Borelli - On Monday night our Culinary Arts Academy student, Giana, was chosen at the ROP Student of the Year. She received a $200 scholarship.

A Big Thank You for a Terrific 2017 Prom - goes to Shea Runge, Colleen Hayashi & ASB . Over 600 students enjoyed an evening at The Grove in Anaheim. There were lots of staff and parents who made the night a success. A Special thanks to all the Staff: Precious Germaine, Kino Oaxaca, Jose Aldaam, Bill Ray, Brent Hendry, Deputy Doty & Sheriffs, Gabby Stephenson, Simaya Hai, Linda Yakzan, Kevin Shanahan, Meshell Maes, Kelly Fritz, Desi St. Amant, Jamie Jauich, Lorri Walls, Peyton Pike, Greg Kemp, Brittany Germaine Parents: Kendie Rose, Linda Fitch, Jennifer Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. Baugh, Students: Maddox Nieto, Cheryl Pham & Tyler Padgett. This was a real team effort!!

Did You See US News & World Report – Yorba Linda High School is again a silver medal winner as a member in the Top 10% of high schools in the nation. 22,000 high schools in 50 states were evaluated on
• Graduation Rate
• College Readiness
• Performance on Math & Reading State Proficiency
• Performance Level for Disadvantaged Students
Yorba Linda scored number 159 in California and 933 nationally. Look for the current article in US News & World Report. Great job everyone!!
