Principal's Weekly Update #248

A Big Thank You – to staff members Desiree St. Amant, Gaspar Berjarano, Kelly Buchan, Amber Ferris, Brent Hendry and Nereida Nunez for opening their classrooms and participation in our 1st “Strategy Showcase” at Yorba Linda High School. There were great instructional activities planned for staff to see, along with lots of student energy and participation in the lessons being taught. Thank you YLHS Instructional Support Team – Rey Lejano, Noelle Toxqui, Samiya Hai and Richard Dinh for coordinating the peer-to-peer informal walk-throughs. Great way to connect everyone to the instructional programs we offer at YLHS!!
 
Did You Hear?
• Coffee With the Counselors is off to a great start! Our first coffee with counselors on September 20th was well attended with over 50 parents. The topic was “Data Driven College Selections.”
• Counselors have been in the senior Language Arts classes this week to discuss college applications, admission information, SAT/ACT testing and all pertinent information for after high school graduation.
• Mustang University kicked off with “Senior College Night.” This presentation took place in the Forum and was a presentation to the parents of seniors. Lorri Walls presented to over 100 parents the ins and outs of college admissions. A Big Thank You to Lorri, Nancy, Peyton and Greg for their time organizing of the presentation.
 
Congratulations to National Merit Scholarship Awards - the National merit Scholarship Corporation announced the 2018 National Merit Commended Scholars. Yorba Linda congratulates the following students who are top 3% of the 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 scholarship competition by taking the 2016 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PTSAT). Great job!!
