When Napoleon III is GONE after France's defeat in the Franco Prussian War, the 2nd empire (the first was his uncle napoleon bonaparte) end and the THIRD Republic is BORN! (the first was french rev, 2nd was 1848-51). During Napoleon III's reign, the Tri Color flag of the Republic is banned. In fact, red colors in public are really limited due to red's association w revolutionary, peoples movements. It's BACK when he's gone. A republic is made of the PEOPLE, not a king. A Nation is the people, NOT a king

 

I really want you all to remember the significance of Kaiser Wilhem being crowned Kaiser(CAESAER!) of German Empire at Palace of Versailles. Always remember that symbols are highly important.(think red, too!)
