Mustang Business Academy (MBA) Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When is the application deadline?
A: The application window is now open from November 28th, 2022, to January 27th, 2023.
B: The early admission application window opens from November 28th, 2022, to January 6th, 2023.
Q: What are the required forms I need to submit along with my application?
A: You need a completed application answering every question, including a writing prompt. You also need to attach copies of your 7th and 8th-grade transcripts (unofficial transcripts are ok). Additionally, you need to attach a signed parent acknowledgment form. You must also have at least one of your core subject teachers submit a copy of their teacher recommendation form to Ms. Waltemeyer ([email protected]).

Q: When will students find out if they were admitted to the academy?
A: Students will be notified by February 14, 2023
B: Early admissions applications will be notified by January 10, 2023.
Q: When is the choice transfer deadline?
A: The choice transfer period begins in January 2023, and the deadline is February 2023.

Q: If I am a 9th-grade student at YLHS, can I still apply to the MBA Academy?
A: Yes. Please submit all required documents, including your 8th and 9th-grade transcript.
Q: What are the courses required to complete the Business pathway?
A: If accepted in the business academy, students can take health and careers over the summer after their 9th-grade year (courses are offered online). Students take Introduction to Business in the 9th grade, Business Comm & Technology in the 10th grade, and Business Leadership in the 11th grade.
Q: What are the courses required to complete the Culinary pathway?
A: If accepted in the culinary academy, students can take health and careers over the summer after their 9th-grade year (courses are offered online). Students take Introduction to Culinary Arts in 9th grade, Culinary Arts in the 10th grade, and Culinary & Hospitality Management in the 11th grade. Hotel & Hospitality Occupations (CC/CVE) or Retail Restaurants (CC/CVE) may be taken through ROP in lieu of the capstone class listed above.
Q: How many work-based learning hours are required for each of the MBA pathways?
A: Work-based learning hours have been reduced and will be updated in the 2023-2024 school year. More information can be provided by MBA teachers once students are enrolled in their MBA classes.
