Mustang Academies Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When is the application deadline?
A: The application window is open from November 15, 2023 to January 31, 2024.
B: The early admission application window opens from November 15, 2023 to January 7, 2024.
Q: What are the required forms I must submit along with my online application?
A: You need a completed online application answering every question, including the writing prompt. You must also attach copies of your 7th and 8th grade transcripts (unofficial transcripts are okay). Additionally, you need to attach a signed parent acknowledgment form.

Q: How do I submit a teacher recommendation form?
A. You must also have at least one of your teachers submit a teacher recommendation.
For Teacher Recommendation, please FORWARD the link attached to the online application to your teacher.
Q: When will students find out if they were admitted to the academy?
A: Early admission applicants will be notified by January 26, 2024.
B: Regular admissions applications will be notified by February 16, 2024
Q: When is the choice transfer deadline?
A: The choice transfer period begins on January 10, 2024, and the deadline is February 7, 2024.

Q: If I am a 9th-grade student at YLHS, can I still apply to the MBA or MBC?
A: Yes. Please submit all required documents, including your 8th and 9th-grade transcript.
Q: What are the courses required to complete the Business Academy?
A: If accepted into the business academy, students can take health and careers over the summer after their 9th-grade year (courses are offered online). Students take Introduction to Business in the 9th grade, Business Communications & Technology in the 10th or 11th grade, and Business Leadership in the 11th or 12th grade.
Q: What are the courses required to complete the Culinary Academy?
A: If accepted into the culinary academy, students can take health and careers over the summer after their 9th-grade year (courses are offered online). Students take Introduction to Culinary Arts in 9th grade, Culinary Arts in the 10th or 11th grade, and Culinary & Hospitality Management in the 11th or 12th grade. Hotel and Hospitality Occupations (CC/CVE) or Retail Restaurants (CC/CVE) may be taken through ROP in lieu of the capstone class listed above.
Q: How many work-based learning hours are required for the MBA and MCA academies?
A: Work-based learning hours have been reduced and will be updated in the 2024-2025 school year. More information can be provided by MBA & MCA teachers once students are enrolled in their respective academy courses.
