Physical night is May 15th at Esperanza this year, doors open at 4:00pm. This Physical carries you until the end of the following school year. If you choose to use your private doctor, these physicals need to be turned in on or before June 26th. No athlete will be allowed to participate in a summer camp unless the physical is cleared. This morning, Junior and Senior students are attending the "Every 15 minutes" accident simulation on Bastanchury Road in front of YLHS. This event is designed to remind students of the dangers of drunk driving by simulating an accident involving our students. The school, in cooperation with local fire and police, stage this simulation every two years. Click for images from the accident simulation.

Today, the YLHS Student Store (aka "Mustang Market") had its ribbon cutting ceremony in the library. Teacher Samiya Hai, Mustang Business Academy students, administration, and invited guests were all present to see this mobile store. YLHS Mustang Baseball is selling Angel game vouchers, good for home games between April 6th - June 30th 2019. Vouchers are $25 each and by participating in this program with the Angels, our Varsity baseball team will have the opportunity to play El Dorado at Angels stadium! In the fall of 2019, YLHS will be offering a new course, Introduction to Mobile Game Development and Design. This is a course that will teach students how to write game apps for their mobile phone and tablet devices. The course will focus on MIT App Inventor and the Unity game engine to create these game apps. Students wanting to take the course should be interested in coding and have sufficient math and science background to be successful in the class. Incoming 9th to 12th grades students that have completed Algebra I or higher are welcome to take the class. Click for an introductory letter and handout which describes the class in greater detail.

Yesterday, about a third of the senior class presented their business idea in the 2018 YLHS Business Expo. According to Mr. Walls, the intention of this expo is to prepare our students for the fact that sooner rather than later, they will have to present the best version of themselves to a potential employer, their boss, or clients. Yorba Linda High School computer science teacher, Dan Eliot, embodies PYLUSD core values of excellence, collaboration, integrity, and innovation. He has successfully completed intensive training on all aspects of using and teaching App Inventor with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, otherwise known as MIT. Mr. Eliot also serves as the E-Sports coach for the Mustangs, and is looking forward to starting a computer gaming pathway of courses for the 2019-2020 school year. Scores earned by PYLUSD maintain a years-long district tradition of giving more tests to more students, with a higher percentage of students earning passing scores at most school sites. Yorba Linda High School boast the highest AP scores in the district for the past seven years (2012-2018). At the Spirit of the Macy Awards, Yorba Linda High School's students received 18 individual trophies, 5 medals, and 2 Show Awards! Hello, Dolly! was one of 22 schools asked to perform at the awards ceremony and was fortunate enough to win "Performance of the Day." The casts competed against 55 other high schools in Orange County. The students also won the Starlight Award, which is the award for "a school that showcases itself by bringing to life the story through wonderfully crafted characters and classic musical storytelling." Today, was Culinary Arts breakfast burrito day for our staff! For the low price of $6.00, Culinary Arts teacher Jenny Messick and her students provided customized breakfast burritos, a beverage, and a yogurt parfait desert. The entire "visual" system at Shapell Stadium is being upgraded for graduation, including the addition of I-Mag video screens, 16" elevated side-stages for students to receive their diplomas, multi- camera live stream (that we will archive on YouTube for later viewing), customized stage backdrop for each school, etc. The district has really upped their game to deliver an improved graduation experience for our Mustang families. Hello Mustang Families. Once again I am very proud of our baseball players and had to share... This past Sunday we held our annual baseball game with the Placentia Pony Champions League. The PPCL is made up players with disabilities who love to play baseball. What a blast it was for all to host these players again. This Sunday reminded us that baseball is "just a game."
